“People freaking out about the inclusion of the Taliban as playable characters in the multiplayer mode of the new game is ridiculous. In every FPS-type game, there is a bad guy. Considering the intense popularity of the current conflicts (which is interestingly ironic; many claim to hate the conflicts, yet purchase games like MW2, watch shows like The Unit and movies like Marine and Hurt Locker, etc. and pay money to the people profiting off of these conflicts) it’s only natural that game designers would focus on something that the younger generation could relate to; everyone knows someone who has been involved in these conflicts. It gives the players a sense of relation to the conflicts by playing these games; fighting brown-skinned people in a desert, using an M4A1 rifle and calling down fire from an AC-130 gunship all give a sense of relative experience to the player. More importantly, the creation of games like these is war profiteering; the same profiteering that Blackwater, civilian contractors, and companies that produce ACU backpacks for school children participate in. War profiteering of any form is unjust and constitutes a true insult to those who have served overseas.”

This is a good read. A couple years ago, I was almost doored (“almost doored” meaning coming within actual inches of clipping the door) by a parked cop car in front of a police station. It was a four lane road, and cop cars were illegally parked in both the rightmost lanes. He swung his door open, I had to swerve into the traffic coming behind me and back around his car. My choice was basically “hit this guy’s door” or “get rear-ended by a car” and I had to make it in less than a second.

So yeah, if I get doored and somehow don’t die, I’m putting you through your own windshield.

““Damon Wayans and I would rate movies using snaps. The fun of In Living Color was exposing black culture, and in that sketch, gay culture, that I don’t think America had ever seen at that point. I had already done Dreamgirls on Broadway, and being in a musical and working with other performers who were gay, I was privy to that vocabulary backstage. They were being themselves. So a lot of it was hijacked from what I heard in the theater and what was permeating around. Now at that time, if a gay person was going to read you — to tell you off — it was always accompanied by snaps. Now I don’t know if it was a gay thing, but it was also a very black thing.””
