They’re a fact of life, really: there’s a certain amount of pressure on people at Marvel and DC to get sales up, and so long as they continue to publish the volume of material that they do with the limited resources that they have, crossovers are really the only game in town- at least in the short term, which is the way the companies still seem to operate. In other words, you’ll only ever have so many genuinely marketable characters, and there’ll only ever be so much big-name talent to go around – so what else are you supposed to do to prop up the books that can boast neither?
