The newest project of Oakley founder Jim Jannard, the Red One is an expandable and modular camera, which means nearly every aspect of the thing can be upgraded: hardware, software, storage, handling and monitoring accessories — you name it — so if you invest the $17,500, you’ll be safe in the knowledge that big Red won’t be outdated in six months. In addition to the expandability, the technical specs on this thing are impressive to say the least. It can shoot video at 4,520 x 2,540 pixels, far greater than the resolution of current high-definition cameras. At the heart of it is the “Mysterium Sensor,” which is said to get digital video as close to the quality of 35mm as humanly possible.
