Wait a second, are they both….and what is that they’re talking about…and on top of that, he’s black…hey DC published a big-event crossover comic that passes the Bechdel test! Wow, what a great moment for female comics readers everywhere! It’s like that time they decided to resurrect Spoiler and return her to the comics fold without ever addressing that whole portion of War Games where she got tortured with an electric screwdriver by a guy whose been known to feed portions of a man’s body to the man’s wife, who he’s also torturing on the side. Such a wonderful time to be a woman, a woman comics reader. They’re really moving these things forward, taking a couple of lesbian characters and putting them as leads in a comic, as if to say “hey. Gay, straight, white, black or latino—really shitty storylines with crappy layouts and simplistic dialog can be blind to color and gender.” The Factual Opinion can still remember the days when a gay super-hero had to be acknowledged as gay on roughly every single page they appeared on, as well as have entire issues devoted to stories that focused on all the crazy-ass gay-bashing that occurs roughly around the same time that uptight super-hero bigots are in need of a quick lesson in tolerance. No longer! It’s 2008, and nobody cares if you’re gay or straight—all they care about is that you are willing to star in a complete piece of shit comic about nothing. Progress is so fucking rad.
